I've spent years living with the gear I write about — vacuums, tools, kitchen kit — and I only recommend what I'd put in my own home. Every pick here was tested by me, not pulled from a spec sheet.

I started Spaffin because buying advice online had gotten worse, not better — endless lists of products nobody had actually touched, ranked by whatever paid the most. I wanted the opposite: a small number of guides where a named person tells you what they'd genuinely buy, and why.

How I test

• I buy or borrow the actual product — no reviewing from a spec sheet or a press release.
• I use it the way you would: in a real home, over real days and weeks, not a 20-minute first impression.
• I weigh it against the competitors in the same guide, on the dimensions that actually matter for that category.
• I name a clear winner and call out the skippers. If nothing's worth buying, I say that too.

Independence

My verdicts are my own. Brands don't get approval, edits, or a say in what I publish, and Spaffin doesn't sell reviews, ratings, or placement. When a product is sent to us or kept for free, the review says so.
